Rearcross U-14's 5 - Lough Derg 'B' 1

Rearcross U-14’s welcomed BT Harps ‘B’ to Bilboa for this league encounter and secured maximum points with a comprehensive 5-1 win. Rearcross signalled intent from the off and came close on 6 minutes when Stephen Rochford’s header from a corner kick wasn’t far away. Stephen Rochford was in the action again with a shot on target after good approach play by Paul Nolan and then Stephen Rochford forced a smart save out of the visiting custodian. The raids at the other end were limited although Cathal Kennedy had to be alert on the 18 minute mark and then Paul Nolan threatened for Rearcross with a headed effort from a corner kick. The Rea boys took the lead in the 24th minute when Cian O’Toole threaded through to Stephen Rochford who finished to the corner of the net. Cian O’Toole provided another assist three minutes later this time to Cillian Kennedy who drilled a low effort to the net. The visitors counter attacked and were unlucky not to take the lead when Cory Morrissey blazed inches wide of the target. Rearcross finished the half on a flourish and tacked on goal number three just before the break when Stephen Rochford found range from out on the left. A sluggish start to the second period saw BT Harps take control as Peadar Hassett fired past Cathal Kennedy from a tight angle eight minutes in. The Templemore side continued to press as Cathal Kennedy came to the rescue with a fine block. The Slieve Felim outfit picked it up again and a flowing move from the back started by Eoin Sheldon saw a menacing ball swung in to the danger area, however the visitors cleared their lines. Cathal Ryan who turned in an impressive performance extended the Rearcross lead with 17 minutes left after letting fly just inside the box as the ball whizzed inside the upright. The home team dominated after this, Stephen Rochford and Patrick Dawson came close but the BT Harps keeper produced a fine save to deny the latter. Rearcross kept the best till last as Aidan Bryan bagged the goal of the game three minutes from time with a delightful left footed effort from the edge of the box to give the visiting custodian no chance. A fine all round performance from a Rearcross side that will face stiffer challenges ahead.
